Sora Savoie's Romania Files | Week 42 | Of Swings and Things

Madison Savoie

Buna Familia mea si prietenii mei!!

This past week, Elder Jerome and I had so much needed swing therapy at the children's park in Sibiu. I saw the sign and it said "Parcul pentru copii - varsta 5-12" which means "Children's Park - ages 5-12."

Obviously I had to go.

As I lovingly told the other missionaries, and will now tell all of you: I was well within the age range because in my soul I'm about five years old. Elder Jerome readily agreed.

This week has been full of ups and downs, but it's been beautiful. I want to thank everyone for their love and support in emailing me after last week's email. Rest assured that I'm doing okay. It's definitely been disappointing, but it's nothing that little ol' Sibiu can't help me fix...and DHL...

The DHL Delivery

This past week I took everything I had from my disappointing previous relationship and sent it back to it's equally disappointing owner. While shipping everything back, I got to talking to the woman across the counter who was helping me get everything shipped. She told me that they were going to have to open the box I was shipping back, but when she saw my hesitation, asked what the box was for. I explained the situation and not only did she not make me open the box, she made sure the package was shipped in three days, right to it's designated doorstep.

People in this world are so good.

As we talked, she told me about her family, her husband of five years, and about life and love. We talked about the importance of families and relationships and ended up exchanging numbers. We are headed to lunch this next week to talk more about life, love, and the gospel that makes all of these things possible.

The moral of the story?

There is nothing that changing your circumstances can do that changing your mindset can't do better.

I have learned to find the positive thing in every seemingly hopeless situation. Is it hard? Yes. Does it take courage and kindness? Yes. But if everything I went through in the past few weeks was because I was meant to meet this woman, then I can honestly say that this new friend was worth it. :)

Time and time again on my mission I have seen that the Lord will never leave us helpless or hopeless. When life seems to be more than we can bear, when circumstances outside of our control seem to be overpowering or overwhelming, the Lord will strengthen us. He will help us. He will increase our opportunities and expand our vision to ultimately lead us on to success and happiness in this life and in every life to come.

I love you all and hope you have a fabulous week!

cu mare drag,

Sora Savoie
